1b. Installing configuration files on a USB memory stick
  • In the next section, we will install the configuration files on a USB memory stick.
This is the recommended option if you want to use FreeTime Calendar on public-access computers. The first step is to copy the profile.txt and userkey.cnf files from the mail message you received from the calendar administrator onto your computer’s desktop, as shown in the first illustration below. Fetch the files, insert your USB memory stick into the computer, and let’s begin.
Step 2

Go to My Computer

Begin by opening the My Computer folder on the PC. On most computers there is a link on the Desktop. You can also open it from the Start menu, as shown in the illustration to the right.

Step 2

Find the memory stick drive

Inside the My Computer folder, find the drive that is the memory stick. If you just inserted the memory stick into the computer, it is probably the drive with the highest letter. In the illustration to the right, the memory stick is drive F: at the bottom of the list.

Step 2

Open the memory stick

Click on the memory stick drive in the My Computer folder to open it. In the illustration to the right, the memory stick is empty. Yours may have files in it – but if it does, you already know that, don’t you.

Step 2

Create a top folder

In the top-level folder of the memory stick, create a new folder.

Step 2

Name the folder FreeTime

Give the new folder the name FreeTime. The calender program will look for this directory, so be sure to spell the name correctly, with a capital F and a capital T.

Step 2

Enter FreeTime, create a subfolder

Enter the FreeTime folder, and create a subfolder inside it. This subfolder will hold your configuration files.

Step 2

Name the subfolder Config

Give the subfolder the name Config (with a capital C ).

Step 2

Open the Config subfolder

Click on the Config subfolder icon to enter it. The illustration to the right shows an empty Config subfolder that has just been created. The address line above the white box reads F:\FreeTime\Config.

Step 2

Move your files into Config

Move the configuration files from the Desktop into the Config folder on the memory stick, as shown in the illustration to the right.

Step 2

Delete files from the Desktop

If you copy the files instead of moving them, be sure the delete them from the Desktop, as shown in the illustration to the right. Remember that it is not a good idea to leave your key files lying around where other people can pick them up.

Step 2

Start the calendar!

If you start the FreeTime Calendar program with this USB memory stick in the computer, the calendar program should connect to the network and show your personal calendar.
