1a. Installing configuration files on a PC
  • In the next section, we will install the configuration files directly on a PC. You should do this only if you are the only user of that particular computer, or if each user of the computer logs in with a separate account. The first step is to copy the profile.txt and userkey.cnf files from the mail message you received from the calendar administrator onto your computer’s desktop, as shown in the first illustration below. Fetch the files first, then let’s begin.
Step 2

Open My Computer

The illustration to the right shows the two configuration files, profile and userkey, on the desktop. These will be moved into the FreeTime configuration directory. Several clicks are required to open this directory. Begin by opening the My Computer folder on your computer (either from the desktop, if there is a link there, or from the Start menu).

Step 2

Open the C: drive

Inside My Computer, you should find a folder for the C: drive (or possibly some other name), which is the main local hard drive inside your computer. Click on this folder to open it.

Step 2

Enter Documents and Settings

At the top level of the local disk folder, you should find a Documents and Settings folder. Click on this folder to open it.

Step 2

Enter your user account folder

The Documents and Settings folder will contain one or more user profile folders. One of these folders will be your current user profile folder. Often it will be Administrator, but if you logged in to Windows under another user name, that will be the name of your current profile. Open the appropriate folder by clicking on it.

Step 2

Find the FreeTime folder

Inside your current user profile folder, you will find a folder FreeTime. This contains your calendar information, and your personal configuration files. Click on the FreeTime folder to open it.

Step 2

Enter the Config folder

The FreeTime folder has two subfolders. The Config subfolder is for your personal configuration files. Click on this folder to open it.

Step 2

Move profile into Config

Using the mouse and the left mouse button, move the profile file into the Config folder.

Step 2

Overwrite the old file

Windows may ask you whether you wish to overwrite the existing profile file that is in the Config folder. The old file should be replaced with the new one, so answer “yes”. Click on the “yes” button, circled in red in the illustration to the right.

Step 2

Move the userkey file to Config also

In addition to the profile file, move the userkey file from the desktop into the Config directory.

Step 2

Start the calendar!

When the two configuration files have been copied into place, you should be able to run the calendar. Click on the FreeTime Calendar icon on your desktop. If the calendar starts up as shown in the illustration to the right, then you have installed the calendar successfully. You can quit the calendar by pressing the Q button, or by closing the window in the usual way, by clicking on its top right-hand corner.
